Pranayama Technique for Anxiety Relief

Box Breathing (also called Sama Vritti)

Step-by-Step (4-4-4-4 count):

1. Inhale for 4 counts 
2. Hold the breath for 4 counts 
3. Exhale for 4 counts 
4. Hold the breath out for 4 counts 

Repeat for 4 rounds = 1 minute

  • Brings attention to the present
  • Evens out Vata (Air element) imbalance

Pranayama Tips:

  • Sit or stand tall with relaxed shoulders
  • Close your eyes if you feel safe
  • Breathe through the nose
  • You can pair with a calming mantra like “So Hum”
